Book Review 1 of the month May: A political thriller-A Cold Dark place by Toni Anderson

Hello again. Following is the book review of ‘A Cold Dark Place’ by Toni Anderson. In the review, I’ve tried my level best to not spoil the story for you; I hope that’s fine. These are my personal views, so you might or might not agree with me on my opinions of the book; lemme know what you think.

A COLD DARK PLACE BY TONI ANDERSON

‘A cold dark place’ is a 2014 publication with a normal page count of about 340 pages and is of the genre romance, thriller/suspense. Written with a 3rd person POV, the story revolves around the protagonists Special Agent Mallory Rooney and FBI Consultant Alex Parker. Mallory joined the FBI mainly so she could get a closer look at the case of her twin sister, who was abducted (and possibly raped, murdered) when they were just 9-year old kids. On the other hand, Alex is an assassin who is secretly taking down all the murderers in town one by one, but falls in love with Mallory. Now after 18 years of her sister Payton Rooney’s kidnapping, Alex must protect Mallory from the kidnapper who is determined to make her life a living hell.

“On one hand they still have a kid who looks exactly like the one they lost. On the other, the constant reminder must have torn them inside out every single day.”

Mr. Parker talking to Ms. Rooney about her parents.

I loved the Anderson book for the really gripping thriller it was; despite reading it in 4-5 instalments, it didn’t take me more than a dozen hours to get to the end of it. The suspense begins from the very first pages of the publication which is exactly how I like it in thrillers. The storyline is fairly good with strong characters, a good setting and locations. A few points that could’ve made the whole thing better are 1. The description of our character appearances a bit more elaborate so they could be imagined properly 2. The abuse described could have been cut down on, as it might be disturbing for some 3. A little more information about Payton and the killer would have been appreciated.

We would also like to learn more about the backstory of the serial killer which would make for an interesting plot. Moreover, I think the cover page could have been a little more attractive and revealing. That said, the rest was an absolute hit. Alex is boyfriend goals! Hot, clever, well-intended, caring. You name it, he has it. The sizzling chemistry our couple Mallory and Mr. Parker shared was stan worthy and all throughout you’d wish for them to just end up together which by the way, I leave for you to find out.

Before you scroll down, here’s a little poll:

A Cold Dark Place’s end does enough justice to their story though. The view of the villain, that is the abductor which a lot of time, begins with a new chapter was unarguably the showstopper of the book. This Toni Anderson book is the first in her series called ‘Cold Justice’ and I look forward to reading the rest as well.

Download the free Amazon Kindle app and read the ebook for nothing, like I did! A lil tip: Scroll to the end of the book to find a glossary with all the abbreviation meanings so you can interpret the law enforcement-specific jargon this book is filled with!
